New iPad iFixit Teardown Reveals A5X Processor, Possible Samsung LCD

Repair Website iFixit flew all the way to Melbourne, Australia, to find the new iPad, a day before Apples latest tablet hits the U.S. market. While the firms teardown artists didnt find anything unexpected as they took the tablet apart, they nonetheless managed to snap some in situ images of the A5X processor, LCD screen and logic board. These are just a few of the hardware elements Apple hopes will allow it to power past the tablet competition for yet another year. The new iPad (Apple hasnt given it an official-sounding name along the lines of “iPad HD” or “iPad 3”) features a high-resolution Retina Display, an improved camera and processor and comparable battery life to its predecessors. In a move that maintains pressure on its competitors, the new iPad will keep the same prices as the previous model, starting at $499 for WiFi-only versions, and $629 for those with 4G capability. Prices top out at $699 for the WiFi-only, 64GB model, and $829 for the 64GB model with WiFi and 4G. Those in the United States will have the option of purchasing the new iPad with 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity on either Verizon Wireless or AT&T. Analysts are predicting the new iPad will prove an instant bestseller, with Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster expecting Apple to sell some 1 million units March 16. - ...
